moments a clearly-articulated demonstration of the de-
velopment of a closed and open form. The five moments,
each corresponding to a different plastic solution, are
linked by a base which unites them in strict serial rela-
tionship; considered in isolation they might appear auto-
nomous. Giansone wanted to create a unified structure,
as he did, with different means and stylistic values, in
Stone of love and its genetic principle. In this case the base is
a true support which describes the metamorphosis be-
tween a rectangular block of stone and the upper part
which appears to grow out of it; it comprises two figures
joined through a curved profile and has an aperture
which also curves along one side. The relationship be-
tween the base, which expresses the genetic principle of
form, and the monumental figurative section, i.e. the
symbolic representation of love, is the same relationship
we find in the various moments of a series of images. Stone
