The Colnaghi catalogue does
         not mention that there is probably
         an oil sketch for the exhibited
         picture in the Hermitage at
         Leningrad, perhaps because, as far as
        I know, western scholars have only
        seen this sketch in a photograph. The
        sketch is mentioned in Barbara
        Luigia la Penta's article in Bollettino
        d'Arte, serie 4, 1963, pp 54-66, which
        is mentioned in the Colnaghi
        catalogue. What is fascinating is that
        when this article was published in
        1963, only four of the Lanfranco
        pictures were known in the original.
        Now, just over ten years later, all
        eight have appeared or been tracked   Dino Boschi Sacro e Profano 1974
