To starve for one's art is scarcely a necessity for the young Michael Tain. now thirty-six years old. expected that from Glasgow
painter in Britain today. Most of the graduates from the major School of Art where he studied under the guidance of Hugh
art schools of the country emerge armed with diplomas that Adam Crawford-'he was a very good teacher. he never influenced
secure easily for them part-time teaching posts that almost rank anyone'-he would come forth ready to accept commissions and
as pre-retirement pensions while on their free days the young sales from an appreciative world. He did not wish to teach. He
Modiglianis and Epsteins voyage on with their creative channels was not long in learning the truth. No one was interested in
unclogged by students' demands. Naively enough perhaps, students' work in those far-off days of 1947 and although
