fantastic. lpousteguy also invents curious 'summaries'
of lines. One could not speak of symbols because his
signs are always concrete, bearers of details of lines
which evoke a living whole rather than establish a dead
synthesis. It is a metallic ribbon whose unexpected
unwindings contrasts itself in a suddenly struck sig
nificance then out of it, like a musical vibration, comes
deep tones with lasting resonance. ■
