                                                                                based on these factors and had to contain a nucleus of
                                                                                these earliest non-representational works of art, starting
                                                                                with  Kandinsky's  dynamic  dissolution  of  the  object,
                                                                                the Rayonism of  Larinov, the Orphism of Delaunay and
                                                                                Kupka, the  Neo-Plasticism of  Mondrian, the Suprema­
                                                                                tism  of  Malevitch,  the  collages  of  Schwitters,  the
                                                                                Bauhaus Constructivists, etc.
                                                                                What is your reaction to the further development up to
                                                                                the most recent art?
                                                                                The  development  of  the  last  40  years  affirms  non­
                                                                                representational  art.  All  over  the  world,  most  artists
                                                                                have accepted the new aesthetics of artistic expression,
                                                                                have enlarged upon it and have striven to discover new
                                                                                forms  of  expression.  The  young  generation  have
                                                                                constantly uncovered new qualities and new processes.










































                                                                                It is true that time and again a return to representational
                                                                                art  was  predicted.  But  these  attempts  were  cut  short
                                                                                from the start,  as in each instance they represented no
                                                                                more  than  reminiscences  of  earlier  styles.  It  was  no
                                                                                longer sufficient to paint in the, grand manner. Perhaps
                                                                                we  shall  have  to  abandon  altogether  the  concept  of
                                                                                'art'  in  its  traditional  sense  and  expand  our  world  of
                                                                                ideas  in respect of  artistic  expression  It is  sometimes
                                                                                said that the time for  Divine  Service and for Art is no
                                                                                more. On the contrary,  I am of the opinion that we have
                                                                                already attained a new level in all spheres which, how­
                                                                                ever, has by no means yet been fully absorbed into the
                                                                                consciousness  of  man.  The  development  of  the  past
