Above This tapestry by Harold Cohen, 26 feet long
and woven by the Edinburgh Tapestry Company in
1965-6, was commissioned by British Petroleum for
their new headquarters building and will be
installed in 1967.
It is at present on show at the Tate Gallery, together
with Cohen's preliminary study for it and Matisse's
large late paper cut-onto, Le Perruche er la
Sirene which was recently sold at Sotheby's and
which may or may not remain in this country. A
novel feature of the Cohen, which took nine months
to weave, is the transference to the tapestry of
fragmented photographic images. The exhibition
will close in October.
