Envoyez /es palates 1967, drawing, 20 x 26 in., by
Roel D'Haese at Claude Bernard, 5 Rue des Beaux
Arts until February 25. Roel D'Haese, born in 1921,
is well known for his sculptures in iron and sheet
metal. Since his first one-man show in 1949 he has
exhibited widely in Europe and America. During
1967 he exhibited at the Pittsburgh International,
'L'lmage du temps', in Bologna, a group show in
Grenoble, 'Campo vitale' at Palazzo Grassi in Venice,
'Tres escultores' at Juana Mordo in Madrid,
'Figures' at Nord in Lille and 'Exposition inter
nationale des dessins' at Musee de Darmstadt,
20 Germany.

Big brother (and others), stone by Max Ernst at
Alexandre lolas, 196 Boulevard Saint-Germain until
February 17. The exhibition includes, apart from
these three sculptures, eighteen recent paintings
and collages by Ernst. The artist was born in
Germany in 1891 and helped to found the Dada
movement in Cologne before settling in Paris in
23 1922 where he became one of the leaders and one
of the most brilliant and versatile artists of the
Surrealist movement.

Puericulture // 1920, bronze (hand, green; pot, brown;
box, white) cast of twelve, 10½ in. high, by Man Ray
at Galerie Europe, 50 Faubourg St Honore, during
February. The exhibition is titled 'Objects of my
affection'. Together with Marcel Duchamp and
Picabia, Man Ray formed a group of Dada-ists in
New York in 1916. In the 1920s he combined the new
movements in art with photography, in his rayo
graphs, some of which were shown in 'Le muse
inquietanti', the exhibition of Surrealism at the
Museo Civico in Turin which is reviewed in this
issue. These rayographs had a great influence on

the development of the cinema at that time.

15 Blue, a vivid-blue multiple sculpture in hinged

nylon and steel,155 x 24 x 11 in.(fully extended)
by Henry Saxe, from Quebec, at the Musee d'Art
Moderne through February, part of the 'Canada;
art d'aujourd'hui' exhibition organized by the
National Gallery of Canada. This piece is from the
Art Gallery of Ontario which is currently showing
the Guggenheim International exhibition 1967
(first shown at the Guggenheim Museum, New
York).

Mustapha, 13 x 16 in., by Albert Marquet in an
exhibition of new acquisitions at Barbizon, 71 rue
des Sts Peres, from February 6 to March 12.

View of Brunswick 1874, 32 x 25 in., by Cornelius
Springer (1817-91) at Gemalde-Galerie Abels,
Stadwaldgurtel 32, through February, March and
April. The exhibition is of paintings from the
seventeenth century up to post-impressionism,
modern sculptures, and antique German silver.
