STANLEY BOXER
I am an object artist. My object concept involves
'sky-light' on surfaces which record a very
particular piece of time, and are brought to
unity by a structure of nuances of colour and
line, the sum total of which culminates in a new
reality of object-concept.
To render that which exists actually into a
metamorphosis of its elements, then recreating
back again to the substance of what is seen — is
what my art is about. I invent nothing. Through
a large context both of work and time, I have
actually arrived at the state of maturity where
what I paint is, in fact, now what I actually
observe — regardless of the so-called 'abstract'
look of my work. When my pictures 'work' the
sum total of elements that constitute 'picture
making' meld as one. Drawing, colour, format,
structure, etc., feed upon each other
harmoniously, creating a unity which is directly
`in tune' with what is seen. No matter the 'look'
of my work, 'object-seen' must be observed by
the viewer. This must occur.
My titles are deliberately, if I may say,
'descriptive-ambiguity'. By this, I mean they
must not be descriptive. To state it a bit more
clearly, they are informational instead of
educational. Oblique, so as not to be descriptive.
However in simpler terms, perhaps this
statement best describes what I am about.
Oblique — out of the corner of the eye —
gradually things seen—observed—not invented—
coming into focus.
I am an object artist.
