                                                                                    the  optical  device  of  the  enlarged  half-tone  dot
                                                                                    employed  in  newsprint  reproductions.  This  half-way
                                                                                    house  of  abstraction  and  representation  conflicts
                                                                                    occasionally  in  its  result  but  at  best  it  conveys  pris­
                                                                                    matic vibration in a formal tension.
                                                                                      Galerie  Louis  Carre  exposed  twenty-four  paintings
                                                                                    by Jean  Bazaine completed between  1942  and  1947,
                                                                                    demonstrating the  typical rigging and flag dressing of
                                                                                    his  work.                                    ■
