December. Peter Gorge, born in Berlin in 1937, was
a founder member of the artists' group

Elephant, colour etching by Friedrich Meckseper at
Gerda Bassenge, Kurfürstendamm 206, until
December 31. Born in Bremen, Meckseper studied
in Stuttgart and Berlin and won a scholarship for a
year's study at Villa Massimo in Rome. He has
exhibited in Germany, Paris, London (at the Lords
Gallery) and Amsterdam. (Price range: DM 200—
DM 400.)

Friedrich, Maximilianstrasse 15, until December 6.
John Hoyland was born in Sheffield and studied at
the Sheffield College of Art. A former member of
the Situation Group, he lives in London and has
held one-man shows at Marlborough New London
and at the Whitechapel. The latter was a
retrospective exhibition. (Price range: DM 5,000—
DM 6,000.) Also showing John Hoyland's paintings
currently is Robert Elkon, 1063 Madison at 81st
Street, New York.

Sitting girl 1929, by Bror Hjorth at Moderna Museet,
S. Blasieholmshammen 16 until January 21. This is
a big retrospective exhibition of the work of this
Swedish artist (born in 1894), with sculptures and
paintings from 1920 till the present day.

Ninfe 1966, copper and cement on wood, 40 x 47¼
in. by Gino Scarpa at Leger until December 4.
Gino Scarpa was born in Venice in 1924 and
studied architecture. From 1949-57 he was an
Alpine guide in the Dolomites until he settled
permanently in Copenhagen. His major one-man
shows have been held in Venice, Bolzano,
openhagen, Munich, New York, Milan, Brussels
and Rome.

Woman with open arms 1961, a metal cut-out, folded
and painted, 11 x 7½ in. by Pablo Picasso at the
Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53 Street until
January 1. Also being shown at this time are
exhibitions of the Museum's recent acquisitions
and of the design collection.

Marilyn Monroe 1962, oil on canvas, 93 x 72 in. by
lames Rosenquist at Sidney Janis, 15 East 57th
Street from December 6 to 30. The exhibition,
-lommage to Marilyn Monroe, contains works by
eading international artists (American, English,
talian and French) and is being staged for the
benefit of a fund for mentally ill children.
