I began to add colour, stimulated by look-
ing at shop windows. Another impetus to
colour was the commission to design costumes
for the Aileen Passloff Dance Company, and
the consequent exposure to clothing. Also, the
flag subject provided a point of transfer from
neutrals to full colour, and from cardboard to
