Spectator sensing systems—
`I am not sure how complex the YES/NO
mechanism should be. Should it work from
both sides of the door? i.e. do the people come
out of the same door they entered, if so can
they do it easily—or doesn't it matter?'
`The original conception was to produce an
exhibition for blind people.'
`The exhibition will depend upon complete
spectator participation, and, although de-
signed specifically for the Bear Lane Gallery,
should be capable of touring in a modified
form.'

sort of hand-out, or information, for advance

`The name comes from the book cover in
which the original shozyg was built, the final
volume SHO-ZYG of an encyclopaedia.
Shozyg I was produced by Hugh Davies in
the summer of 1968. Shozygs have since then
been produced by him as well as in collabo-
ration with John Furnival.'
`The contact microphones amplify all sounds
equally, regardless of their acoustic differences
since the sounds are picked up as vibrations
from a physical surface and not from the air.'
