Relief Camouflage 1966, wood and paint, 25x 22 in.,
by John S. Beswick in a mixed exhibition in March
at Barbican Studios Gallery, 44 New Street,
Barbican, Plymouth, Devon. Beswick's work is also
included in the permanent exhibition of paintings,
prints and ceramics available at this newly-opened
gallery run by Anthony Currell, an etcher and painter
who worked at Atelier 17. (Illus. no. 13, Currell working
on one of his prints.) Among gallery artists are
Alexander Mackenzie, Derek Holland, Marjorie
Holland, Nicholas Gray, T. Shelford Currell,

The Immaculate Conception 1966, oil on canvas,
50 x 50 in., by Norman Adams, at Central Public
Library, Art Gallery and Museum, Oldham, until
March 14. Now head of the School of Painting at
the Manchester College of Art, Adams has exhibited
at the Congress of Cultural Liberty Exhibition, Rome,
Brussels, Paris, 1954-55 and was invited to
participate in the Carnegie Institute Biennale in
1958-9. Adams' has had works purchased by the
Arts Council of Great Britain, Colchester, Art
Gallery, Wellington, National Gallery of New
Zealand, and the Edinburgh Scottish National Gallery

Broken Column 1966, acrylic paint on canvas, 42 x
50 in., by George Murray in an exhibition of
paintings March 7-27 at Moyan Gallery, 31 Brown
Street, Manchester. Murray is self-taught, and
began painting seriously in 1948. He says of his
painting: 'my work is concerned with exploring the
relationship between a symbol and the space
immediately around it, and with combining the whole
into a classical yet personal statement'. (Approx.

Dra 1965, oil on canvas, 31 x 21+ in., by Taïeb
Lahlou in a one-man exhibition of 35 oil paintings at
Broadway Art Gallery, Broadway—March 10—March
29. Lahlou lives in Marrakesh and has been president
of the Winter Salon in Morocco since 1960. Once a
teacher in a remote Saharan district, he was given a
very successful exhibition i n Madrid, 1966.
He is the subject of a monograph in the series
'Cycle of Foreign Art'. (Price range: £150—£450.)

Tolcarne 1963, polished bronze 26 x 10 in., by Denis
Mitchell in a mixed Spring exhibition at Penwith
Gallery, St Ives, March 22—May 27. Mitchell, who lives
and works in St Ives, is also exhibiting sculpture
produced in 1959-67 at the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol,
March 25—April 26, in a show shared with John Plumb.
