The diagram of meeting 1966 a drawing on card by
Arakawa, in a one-man show at Galleria Schwarz,
17 via Gesù, through October. Arakawa was born
in Tokyo in 1936 and studied medicine and
mathematics. His first one-man shows were in
1959 and 1960 at the Museum of Modern Art in
Tokyo. In the same year he formed a group and
staged several happenings. In 1962 he moved to
New York and has exhibited in Europe and America.
Rome

Le ragazze di Arles 1966, gouache, 19 x 13 in. by
Renato Guttuso in a one-man show at the Galeria
Medusa, 124 via del Babuino until October 30.
Guttuso was born in Palermo in 1912 and now lives
and works in Rome. (Price range $1,000—$5,000).
New York

Pandora from a special exhibition of musical
instruments in the Medieval Sculpture Hall at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, called Pleasing eye
and ear alike, from October 2 to 8. This is a display
of old instruments including some early lutes and
picturesque slide trombones with their bells
transformed into dragon or snake heads. Also
included is the spinetta made in Venice in 1540
for Eleonora della Rovere, considered to be the best
preserved of its kind.

Matisse et son modèle dans /'atelier 1918 oil on
canvas, 23½ x 28 in. by Henri Matisse at the
Wildenstein Gallery, 19 East 64th Street, from
October 4 to November 4. The exhibition is of the
Bakwin collection of paintings and sculpture, for
the benefit of the Association for Mentally III
Children in Manhattan. Various artists are
represented.

Musical sculpture 1966, 28 in. high, by Francois
and Bernard Baschet from an exhibition of their
work at the Waddell Gallery, 15 East 57th Street,
from the end of October through November. This
gallery is sole agent for the Baschets in the U.S.A.
The works shown can be touched and played.

Olymp 1967 brass and copper, 36½ x 29¾ x 23 in. by
Gunter Haese from the Guggenheim International
Exhibition 1967 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim
Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue from October 20 to
February 4. The Guggenheim Internationals, which
have been held at the Museum since 1956, are
selective surveys of outstanding achievements in
contemporary art throughout the world. The
current show, which will fill the museum, is the
first to be devoted entirely to sculpture. It will
include 100 works of the 1960s by 80 artists.
Montreal

Jean-Paul Mousseau with two of his paintings, from
a retrospective one-man show at the Museum of
Contemporary Art, 4040 Sherbrooke Street East,
from October 3 to November 5. Mousseau was born
in Montreal in 1927 and studied in Borduas' work-
shop. He takes part in all the automatist
exhibitions and has designed settings and stage
effects for theatres and ceramics for buildings.
